The concept of heroism is not always valued in today's cynical world, but it exists nonetheless and never more so than in the animal rights campaigner, Vicki Moore. In her tragically short life, Vicki, in partnership with her equally committed husband, Tony Moore, single-mindedly set about eliminating animal cruelty wherever she found it. Whether filming in the midst of an angry crowd in one of Spain's notorious blood fiestas, or protesting against hare-coursers in this country, she would always put her own safety last and the animals' welfare first. This courageous attitude frequently exposed her to grave danger, either from the perpetrators and spectators, angry at her interference, or from the animals themselves, who, enraged by the agonies to which they were being subjected, were unable to distinguish friend from foe. And so it was that on 25 June 1995, she was gored repeatedly by a full grown bull called Argentino. The frenzied attack, in which she was tossed about like a rag doll, left her broken ... and bleeding ... and near to death ... Yes, Vicki Moore was a heroine, by any definition, and this book stands as a lasting testament to her life and work. |

El concepto de heroísmo no siempre es valorado en el cínico mundo que nos ha tocado vivir. Pero ese heroísmo existe y, nunca mejor dicho, se manifestó en la defensora de los derechos de los animales, Vicki Moore. A lo largo de su vida, trágicamente breve, Vicki, en unión de su esposo, Tony Moore, igualmente comprometido en la causa, con gran determinación comenzó a luchar exitosamente en la eliminación de la crueldad hacia los animales allá donde la encontrara. Ya fuera grabando imágenes en medio de una enfurecida muchedumbre en alguna de las tristemente conocidas fiestas sangrientas de España, ya fuera protestando contra la caza de la liebre en su país, Vicki siempre colocaba en último lugar su seguridad personal dándole absoluta prioridad al bienestar de los animales. Esta valerosa actitud la expuso con frecuencia a graves peligros, tanto de los maltratadores de animales y los espectadores, muy irritados por su oposición, como de los propios animales que, enfurecidos por los terribles malos tratos a los que estaban siendo sometidos, no podían distinguir al amigo protector del enemigo maltratador. Y así fue hasta que llegó el 25 de junio de 1995, cuando Vicki fue corneada repetidamente por un potente toro de lidia de nombre Argentino. El frenético ataque, en el transcurso del cual Vicki fue lanzada por los aires como muñeca de trapo, la dejó malherida... y sangrando... a punto de morir... Sí, Vicki Moore fue una heroína, por definición y en el más elevado sentido de la palabra, y este libro es un legado permanente de su vida y obra. |

Heldenhaftigkeit wird in der heutigen zynischen Welt nicht immer geschätzt, aber sie existiert dennoch. Dafür gibt es kaum ein besseres Beispiel als die Tierschützerin Vicki Moore. In ihrem tragisch kurzen Leben setzte sich Vicki, gemeinsam mit ihrem Mann Tony gegen Tierleid ein, wo immer sie es vorfand. Ob sie inmitten der rasenden Meute einer der notorisch blutigen spanischen Fiestas filmte oder gegen die Hasenjagd in ihrer englischen Heimat protestierte - stellte sie stets ihre eigene Sicherheit den Kampf für die Tiere. Diese mutige Haltung brachte sie oft in Gefahr, entweder durch die Täter und Zuschauer, die sie aus Ärger über ihre Einmischung angriffen. Oder durch die Tiere selbst, die, wütend gemacht durch die Agonie, die sie durchleiden mussten, Freund und Feind nicht unterscheiden konnten. Und so kam es, dass sie am 25. Juni 1995 von einem ausgewachsenen Stier namens Argentino mehrmals auf die Hörner genommen wurde. Die wahnsinnige Wucht des Angriffs, bei dem sie wie eine Stoffpuppe herumgeschleudert wurde, verletzte sie so schwer, dass sie beinahe verblutete … und dem Tode nahe war… Ja, Vicki Moore war eine Heldin wie sie im Buche steht, und diese Biographie stellt ein dauerhaftes Zeugnis ihres Lebens und ihrer Arbeit dar. |
