Matilda Mench is the author of Life on the Line The heroic story of Vicki Moore.
When asked why she wrote the book about Vicki, she says: When I met Tony he swept me off my feet. I thought, it would be just the two of us in the relationship. However, I soon found out, that Vicki still very much played a part in our lives.
Whenever I met people, they spoke highly of her. I didnt know her and I wasnt aware of how much people admired and loved her for her courage and stamina and that she is well-known not only in England but in many other countries too.
I embarked on a journey to get to know the person behind the icon. It was a lot of work because the amount of Tonys archive material is huge. And it was not always easy, because I sometimes I got pretty close to my predecessor in the relationship ...
Watching hours and hours of interviews and the footage she and Tony had filmed sometimes moved me to tears. But what I learned strenghtened my resolve that Vicki deserved that her life be celebrated in a book.
She gave up a lot for her dedication for the animals. She could have become a famous artist instead, both through her painting and and her singing.
I was always aware that it was not an easy task, but it is very rewarding to me, when people tell me, that they like the book and cant put it down.
Matilda and Tony live in Southport. They share their home with four cats. The couple also adopted their cow Bluebell and her calf Belana.
Matilda has also written a childrens thriller which is published in her native Germany. The English version is available complete and free of charge on the internet. It is called "Save the Sanctuary" and is an adventure about battery chickens.
